Our Winery

Bodegas Prado de Olmedo is located in the town of Quintana de Pidio, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero.
It is a family winery of artisan character, which has managed to maintain the family tradition over the years, respecting what has been learned generation after generation, achievement after achievement, and wine after wine.

Our Vineyards

The Fernández family owns 42 hectares of vineyards with an average age of 60 years, with vineyards that are over 80 years old, which gives the grapes unique characteristics in terms of aromas, tannins and antoncians.

The soil where the vineyard is located is of a calcareous clay type. The low rainfall recorded throughout the year, together with the climatic fluctuations with total oscillations of up to 20 and 30 ºC, produced by the severe winter frosts and the overwhelming summer heat, make this area unique for the Tinta del País grape variety.

The vineyards are located in the municipalities of Quintana del Pidio, Gumiel de Mercado and La Aguilera. These are municipalities that have maintained their wine culture for many years, which is why these ancient vineyards have been preserved. The grapes are controlled plot by plot, as they are not very large, which allows for absolute control over the care of the vines, making it possible to carry out all the work in the vineyard in a more efficient way. The grapes are harvested manually, plot by plot, with daily planning.

Our will

In 1999 the Fernández Gil family, convinced of the great potential of their vineyard, founded Bodegas Prado de Olmedo.
It is a winery that belongs to D.O. Ribera del Duero. It is located in Quintana del Pidio, known as the “Jardín de la Ribera”.

We are passionate about making wines that excite us every year, bringing them to life, with their own, very familiar character. Throughout the year we take great care of our vineyards in order to obtain good fruit. We organise the grape harvest so that the grapes arrive at the winery at their optimum moment, to finally put all our passion and knowledge into each campaign, to see the birth of a new wine every year. A wine with tradition, character and passion.

The history of the village

This site, situated on the banks of the river Gromejón, is located next to one of the most active Roman roads in Hispania during its time: the one that ran from Zaragoza to Astorga.
There may have been a small Roman villa on this site, which later became a tiny monastery that would be absorbed by the strong Benedictine dominion of Santo Domingo de Silos.
Today, only the name of some documentary allusions remain.
